The bodies of the martyrs of Aguanum (Modern Saint Maurice) were discovered and identified by Saint Theodore the Bishop of Octudurm, who was in office at 350 AD. He built a Basilica in their honor at Aguanum, the remains of which are visible still. This later became the center of a monastery built about the year 515 CE on the land donated by Sigismund of Burgundy who became King the following year.
